2020 Pope Francis Award Presented to Lucy Howell
On Saturday, March 14, 2020, the 10th Annual Kino Border Initiative Dinner will celebrate over a decade of humanitarian assistance at the U.S./Mexico border. Since 2008, in a challenging environment, the Kino Border Initiative (KBI), working with its binational partners, has served 75,000 migrants with meals, clothing, shelter and medical and pastoral care.
KBI’s major fundraising event, co-chaired by Lisa Grant and Ann Rathwell, will bring together 500 friends and supporters at Brophy College Prep for an evening featuring a cocktail reception and entertainment followed by dinner served by the students. It will also feature our program led by KBI Executive Director Fr. Sean Carroll and the presentation of the 2020 Pope Francis Award to Lucy Howell followed by a live auction.
The event comes at a time when the humanitarian crisis at the border has reached an inflection point, and the political climate has made the work more challenging. The KBI is dependent entirely on donations for its annual operating expenses. Proceeds from the annual dinner are a significant part of KBI’s annual fundraising. With your support, “Hand in Hand, We Can” continue to make a difference in thousands of lives each year. We hope that you will be able to join us for this anniversary celebration.
We are extremely grateful to Brophy College Preparatory for the use of Harper Great Hall and providing us the student servers.
