Historical League, Inc.

The mission of the Historical League is to support the Arizona Historical Society and the Arizona Heritage Center at Papago Park in Tempe, Arizona. Members contribute by securing and allocating resources, including the Historymakers exhibit, and conducting educational, informational and promotional activities in our community.

Since its founding in 1979, the Historical League has raised more than $1.45 million for the Arizona Heritage Center, and its members have volunteered more than 160,000 hours to the League and the Center. The Historymakers Gala is our major fundraising event.

The Historical League’s Historymakers “Turquoise & Tuxedos” Gala and Recognition Program, has recognized and honored outstanding living Arizonans since 1992.  Historymakers are men and women who have distinguished themselves with notable achievements in such diverse areas as the arts, athletics, communications, community service, education, and entertainment and who have maintained their ties to Arizona. Through biographies, portraits, oral histories, photos and memorabilia, the Historymakers’ life stories become an important part of the Arizona Historical Society Museum. The 2019 inductees will join our previous Historymakers to become part of the Historymakers Exhibit at the Arizona Heritage Center at Papago Park.
